Jack Looks Ahead To ‘Exciting Period’

14 December 2023

Having started back-to-back matches, Jack Whatmough admits he doesn’t want to stop playing, despite the likelihood of rotation during the busy festive period.

The defender, who joined North End in the summer, has had a stop-start introduction to life at Deepdale due to injury, but he played the full 90 minutes and impressed against Norwich City and Huddersfield Town.

With four matches coming up between now and New Year’s Day, manager Ryan Lowe has said all the squad will need to be utilised.

Jack said: “Every player’s the same. Once they’re playing, they don’t want to stop.

“I think it’s one of those, if a decision’s been made where you do need a rest or they think you need a rest, you just take it.

“You train well, be good around the lads like they were supporting you when you were playing, do the exact same thing for them.

“We’ve just got to do the right things and take it game by game.

“It’s an exciting period because it’s one that can push you towards the Play-Offs or it’s one that can catch you, so hopefully we can push on.

“We’ve got a big squad with nearly everyone available now, so I think all of us are on the same page and we’ll be working hard to get as many points as we can in this period.”

The first match of this next block of fixtures comes at Deepdale on Saturday as 12th-placed Watford make the journey to Lancashire.

They’ve lost twice in their previous 11 outings, while PNE have taken four points on the road during the last week.

Jack said: “I think the first conversation was an in-house one about the week before not being the standard that we’ve set ourselves.

“Going to Norwich at the weekend, we knew it was going to be a tough place to go to, but we wanted to get back to the basics and show what we’re like defensively which I think we’ve done.

“Tuesday was building on that and that was getting three points. I think everything we did on Tuesday was right.

“We had a lot of the ball and I think we used it well, defended well and then we’ve come away with the three points which was important.”
